Yering Farm Wines is a small winery with a single vineyard located in the heart of Yarra Valley. It’s no surprise that this beautiful vineyard, with its warm, family-owned atmosphere and picturesque surroundings, has captured the hearts of locals and tourists.

We sat with Megan from Yering Wines to learn more about this winery, its history, and winemaking methods. They also discussed their role in influencing the marriages and relationships of couples across the country.

Yering Farm Wines’ Rich History

The 30-acre vineyard of Yering Farm Wines is located along the main tourist route in the Yarra Valley, on the same site where Yeringa Vineyards was once situated in the 1890s. Alan Johns, chief winemaker of Yering, didn’t plant new vines until 1989. This was the beginning of a new age in winemaking.

Early on, grapes from Yering Vineyard were sold to other wineries, and only a small amount was reserved for John’s winemaking.

Yering Farm Wines, a family-owned winery with a long history of producing distinctive wine varieties, has helped Yering Farm Wines become the destination it is today.

Yering’s Wine Specialties

Yering Farm Wines is renowned for its Chardonnay and Pinot Noir but also produces Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot, and Shiraz varieties.

Three series make up their portfolio:

Our entry-level range is called Farmyard Series and is comprised of young, fresh, affordable, easy-drinking wines. Rosanna Vecchio designed the gorgeous animal labels for these wines. She is also the artist who created Stephanie Alexander’s books. Megan says that these labels are popular among our customers, and the wine is delicious.

Megan says that the second series of Yering Farm Wines is their premium collection, which is made up of full-bodied complex wines with a lot of flavor.

The Estate Series is in the premium range. These are full-bodied, complex wines made with a combination of old and new French oak barrels and high-quality fruits. They are great with food or aged up to 15 years.”

The final range is the Winemaker’s Selection. Reserve wines are produced only when Mother Nature is exceptionally kind to us. These wines are the best. The best quality, hand-selected parcels of fruits, brand new French barrel fermentation, and limited production. “Our current vintages date back to 2006. We have a Pinot Noir, a Cabernet Sauvignon, and a Chardonnay.

The vineyard is not only known for its wine but also produces some of Victoria’s best-tasting cider.

Our Pink Lady Apple Syder has a unique taste. Our Pink Lady Apple Syder is made from home-grown apples, and the juice is fermented in barrels of Pinot Noir wine. The result? A gorgeous pink blush. For about four years, we have been selling this mainly through the cellar door. At the end of last season, we started introducing it to restaurants. Our customers love the taste and the apple blossom label. The pink lady apple’s sweet, crisp, and natural characteristics are evident. It tastes like you are biting into a pink ladyapple.

From Vine To Bottle

Alan Johns is the chief winemaker of Yering Farm Wines. He uses a less commercialized winemaking technique. Alan Johns is the winemaker at Yering Farm Wines. He uses estate-grown grapes to produce all of his wines.

Alan’s hands-on approach to winemaking ensures that Yering Farm wines are of high quality while maintaining their individuality. Yering uses French Oak Barrels because of their tighter grain. Our handcrafted wines can now have a more subtle oak influence. Yering Farm uses different sizes of French Oak Barrels. Megan says that the larger the barrel is, the more nuanced the oak flavor is achieved because there’s a lower proportion of oak in contact with the larger volume of Yering Farm wines.
The vineyard developed its unique approach to the winemaking process over the past ten years. This includes a variety of traditional practices while also adopting innovative technologies and methods.

Yering Farms uses traditional winemaking techniques, such as open-top fermenters, hand plunging, and maturation of the wines in French oak barrels. These help to create superb wines. She adds that they also incorporate the latest winemaking techniques, innovations, and styles.

Yering Farm Wines, which has a long history, has received many accolades and is steadily increasing its production of high-quality wine. Each year, they produce approximately 6,000 cases.

Heartwarming weddings at Yering Wines

“A small number of weddings take place here every year. Each one is unique, rustic, and created for the couple. The ceremony takes place on the lawn, with the vineyard of the estate and the mountains in the distance as a backdrop. Yering Farm’s cellar door is a renovated hay barn with rustic charm and historical details. Megan says that the estate-made wines and ciders are perfect for cocktail or seated events.

Your special event can either be formal or informal. Play lawn games, hang bunting and fairy lights and candles, or vases with stunning flowers. Sit down, stand, or move around inside and outside.
