Tasting Notes

Sauvignon Blanc is one the oldest grapes in Australia and easily one of the most popular. With its rise in popularity in more recent decades, this refreshing tipple now comes in a multitude of different styles.

Greenstone vineyards in the Yarra Valley bring a Sauvignon Blanc designed to challenge the reign of Marlborough. A zesty white with lemon, lime and green melon round out this refreshing Sauvignon.

From the Margaret River comes a new take on new world Sauvignon Blanc by way of old world style. Evoi Wines have created a Sauvignon Blanc Semillon with added complexity due to the use of French oak barrel fermentation. A softer leaner Sauvignon Blanc challenges the expectations on conventional new world Sauvignon Blanc with a welcome change.

Another entry from the Margaret River comes from Stella Bella Wines in the region's south. A Semillon Sauvignon Blanc which has been crafted to express a perfumed, aromatic white. A natural acidity tied with zesty citrus, passionfruit, and guava round this wine as one the better Australian takes on the classic varietal.

Evoi Wines 2015 Margaret River Sauvignon Blanc Semillon

Evoi Wines bring us a Sauvignon Blanc Semillon to challenge the Australian expectation of this varietal. This is an SBS for both fans and first-timers.... Expect passionfruit and gooseberry but with something added. Harvested in the cool of night to keep the fruit fresh, the grapes underwent partial French Oak fermentation to instill an added complexity which is in line with the famous White Bordeaux of France. read more show less

94 Points James Halliday , Wine Companion

“Night-harvested, largely tank-fermented, with a small portion in French barriques, which is unexpectedly obvious on the bouquet, less so on the long and intensely focused palate. The blend percentages aren't specified, but the semillon has given the wine its minerally structure and drive”

Stella Bella Wines 2016 Margaret River Semillon Sauvignon Blanc

If you’re partial to a Margaret River SBS, you'll love Stella Bella’s 2016 Suckfizzle Sauvignon Blanc Semillon. This medium-bodied wine delivers a...n opulent, fruit-driven bouquet of crushed citrus and nectarine; buoyed by hints of musk and nutty biscuits.

The palate is a beautiful balance of fruit and citrus notes complemented by its great texture.

92 Points James Halliday , Wine Companion

“Bright straw-green; has the Stella Bella stamp all over it; notwithstanding that semillon is the dominant partner, the exotic tropical fruits of sauvignon blanc do most of the talking, with passionfruit, custard apple and gooseberry joined by lemony acidity on the finish. Will be around for a few years yet.”

91 Points Gary Walsh , The Wine Front

“Generally I prefer Semillon to ride higher in the blend. In short, I’m more SSB than SBS. Lime and snow pea, with a little lift from tropical Sauvignon fruit. It’s juicy, but firm too, with good shape and a clean citrus cut, some softness and savoury flavour, then flinty and well packed and bursting with sweet lime on a pretty long finish. Excellent.”

Greenstone Vineyards 2016 Yarra Valley Sauvignon Blanc

Greenstone’s 2016 Yarra Valley Sauvignon Blanc is a lovely pale straw colour – characteristic of its barrel fermentation.

The pala...te delivers zesty citrus notes that complement hints of guava and melon, while complexity is added with chewy textural wood elements. This wine is visually and aromatically engaging and tastes even better. Enjoy it now, or anytime over the next three or four years. read more show less
