Tasting Notes

Shiraz is the Hunter Valleys outstanding red grape and one of the oldest varietals in the region. The warm and humid climate makes for a powerful red with a touch of elegance through Hungerford’s use of premium oak.

This Shiraz is medium bodied and somewhat restrained compared to it’s Barossa cousins. This is due, in part, to lower alcohol levels. On the palate ripe fruit is balanced by spice and savoury notes and finished with a fine silky tannin.

91 Points James Halliday , Wine Companion

“The regional savoury, earthy, leathery signature is obvious, that of the fruit less so, with one important character: its moderate alcohol that so many relate to as a counter to the power and depth of the Barossa Valley. A success for a moderate vintage. ”
