Tasting Notes

Heralding from one of Victoria’s greatest Shiraz growing regions, the Hanging Rock Heathcote Shiraz is the winery’s flagship Shiraz - second only to their reserve Shiraz.

A combination of old and new vines of the same vineyard – each picked at separate times and kept separate throughout the fermentation stage – this Shiraz is rich, complex yet gentle. On the palate are flavours of dark chocolate, sweet plum and coffee.

94 Points Campbell Mattinson , The Wine Front

“It’s at the super ripe end of the spectrum. It tastes of dark chocolate and sweet plum, bitumen and coffee grounds. Vanillin oak slides throughout as well. It’s almost porty with alcohol warmth but sandalwood notes and the softness of the texture keep the impression in more seductive territory. One thing that cannot be de ... nied: the concentration of flavour here is right up there. Talk about rich. Obviously you have to like the style but it’s a very good version of it. 96 Points James Halliday , The Weekend Australian Magazine

“It’s clear that Rob Ellis has the game sewn up: 50/50 crushed and whole berries; 50/50 new French and American oak; he uses “new techniques” for this wine. The bouquet is ultra-fragrant, the blackberry and licorice of the palate has lovely vinosity and flesh, and persistent, fine tannins. ”
